BOX OFFICE NEWS - TOP 10 GROSSERS
for the weekend ending February 05, 2012

The top 10 grossing films this weekend generated a total of 88.1 million dollars; 76.2% of the total combined take of 115.6 million this weekend.
     Newcomer CHRONICLE from 20TH CENTURY FOX took the number one spot with a weekend gross of $22.00 million at 2907 locations averaging $7,569 per screen. (see new releases)
     WOMAN IN BLACK from CBS which opened this week came in second grabbing a healthy $20.87 million for a $7,311 average. (see new releases)
     Taking third place is GREY from OPEN ROAD , bringing home $ 9.30 million for a $2,900 average. Plunging a scary -53% while it added 22 screens and raised its gross to $ 34.56 million in week 2.
     New arrival BIG MIRACLE from UNIVERSAL settled for fourth place. It managed to sell $ 7.76 million worth of tickets at theatres around the nation with a screen average of $3,645. (see new releases)
     Rank number five is taken over by UNDERWORLD AWAKENING (SONY) . It collected $ 5.50 million over the weekend for an average of $2,087. It tumbled another -55% in week 3 , scaling back to 3078 (-442) screens for a US cume of $ 54.25 million.
     ONE FOR THE MONEY (LIONSGATE) is moving into the sixth spot. It grabbed $ 5.21 million at 2737 screens. It nose-dived -55% in week 2 while remaining in the same number of theatres than the prior weekend. Growing its cume to $ 19.62 million.
     RED TAILS (20TH CENTURY FOX) gets comfortable in seventh place , recording $ 4.74 million in 2347 locations around the country. Plunging a scary -54% in week 3, the pic left -226 locations and upped its box office purse to $ 41.06 million.
     FOX SEARCHLIGHT's DESCENDANTS lands on rank eight, clocking $ 4.55 million in 2038 spots. Upping its domestic cume to $ 65.48 million, it had an acceptable drop of -29% while it added 37 prints in week 12.
     SUMMIT's MAN ON A LEDGE takes nineth place, generating $ 4.35 million at 2998 screens. This pic took a hefty -46% dive while it stayed in as many locations as last week. Its total US take: $ 14.62 million in week 2.
     Bringing up the rear this week is WARNER BROS.'s EXTREMELY LOUD & INCREDIBLY CLOSE . It finishes tenth, holding onto $ 3.80 million from 2505 sites. It lost a real -46% moving out of -125 theatres in week 6, bringing its US total to $ 26.67 million.
