BOX OFFICE NEWS - TOP 10 GROSSERS for the weekend ending March 14, 2010 The top 10 grossing films this weekend generated a total of 129.6 million dollars; 88.4% of the total combined take of 146.6 million this weekend. Still leading the charts after 1 week is ALICE IN WONDERLAND from BVI with a weekend gross of $62.71 million at 3728 locations averaging $16,822 per screen. This pic took a hefty -46% dive while it stayed in as many locations as last week. Its total US take: $209.34 million in week 2. GREEN ZONE from UNIVERSAL which opened this week came in second grabbing a healthy $14.31 million for a $4,765 average. (see new releases) SHE'S OUT OF MY LEAGUE from PARAMOUNT which opened this week came in third , bringing home $ 9.78 million for a $3,307 average. (see new releases) Fourth place goes to PARAMOUNT's SHUTTER ISLAND. It managed to sell $ 8.14 million worth of tickets at theatres around the nation with a screen average of $2,427. Raising its domestic cume to $108.01 million in week 4, it experienced a solid -38% drop despite the 178 prints it added this weekend. Also new to the charts is REMEMBER ME from SUMMIT which is ranking at number five . It collected $ 8.09 million over the weekend for an average of $3,657. (see new releases) Entering the chart in sixth position is OUR FAMILY WEDDING from FOX SEARCHLIGHT. It grabbed $ 7.63 million at 1605 screens. (see new releases) AVATAR (20TH CENTURY FOX) gets comfortable in seventh place , recording $ 6.53 million in 1718 locations around the country. It took a minor hit of -20% dropping out of -445 sites to play on 1718 screens in week number 13. Its total to date: $ 730.27 million. OVERTURE's BROOKLYN'S FINEST lands on rank eight, clocking $ 4.47 million in 1939 spots. It lost a disastrous -67% while it added 3 screens and raised its gross to $ 21.53 million in week 2. WARNER BROS.'s COP OUT takes nineth place, generating $ 4.27 million at 2882 screens. Plunging a scary -54% in week 3, the pic left -268 locations and upped its box office purse to $ 39.48 million. Bringing up the rear this week is OVERTURE's CRAZIES . It finishes tenth, holding onto $ 3.68 million from 2359 sites. It lost a real -48% moving out of -120 theatres in week 3, bringing its US total to $ 33.39 million. |
