BOX OFFICE NEWS - TOP 10 GROSSERS for the weekend ending November 15, 2009 The top 10 grossing films this weekend generated a total of 124.1 million dollars; 88.7% of the total combined take of 139.9 million this weekend. Newcomer 2012 from SONY took the number one spot with a weekend gross of $65.24 million at 3404 locations averaging $19,165 per screen. (see new releases) DISNEY'S A CHRISTMAS CAROL from BVI which opened this week came in second grabbing a healthy $22.31 million for a $6,057 average. (see new releases) Taking third place is PRECIOUS: BASED ON THE NOVEL "PUSH" BY SAPPHIRE from LIONSGATE , bringing home $ 5.87 million for a $33,762 average. It jumped up 214% over the last weekend after 2 weeks in release, while adding 156 screens to its lineup. New arrival MEN WHO STARE AT GOATS from OVERTURE settled for fourth place. It managed to sell $ 5.86 million worth of tickets at theatres around the nation with a screen average of $2,390. (see new releases) Rank number five is taken over by MICHAEL JACKSON'S THIS IS IT (SONY) . It collected $ 5.08 million over the weekend for an average of $1,672. It tumbled another -61% in week 3 , scaling back to 3481 (-444) screens for a US cume of $ 67.19 million. FOURTH KIND (UNIVERSAL) is moving into the sixth spot. It grabbed $ 4.61 million at 2530 screens. It lost a disastrous -62% while it added 3 screens and raised its gross to $ 20.45 million in week 2. COUPLES RETREAT (UNIVERSAL) gets comfortable in seventh place , recording $ 4.16 million in 2509 locations around the country. With a percentage loss of -32%, it moved out of 348 screens in week 6, bringing its US cume to $102.05 million. PARAMOUNT's PARANORMAL ACTIVITY lands on rank eight, clocking $ 4.04 million in 2712 spots. Plunging a scary -51% while it added 154 screens and raised its gross to $103.69 million in week 8. OVERTURE FILMS's LAW ABIDING CITIZEN takes nineth place, generating $ 3.80 million at 2071 screens. It tumbled another -37% in week 5, scaling back to 2474 (-403) screens for a US cume of $ 67.19 million. Bringing up the rear this week is WARNER BROS.'s BOX . It finishes tenth, holding onto $ 3.16 million from 2635 sites. It nose-dived -58% in week 2 while remaining in the same number of theatres than the prior weekend. Growing its cume to $ 13.18 million. |
