GAY COUPLE WINS RACE AND RATINGS
Friday, August 22 2003    Digg!
Gay organizations are hailing The Amazing Race victory of a gay couple who said that they consider themselves married. "America's love affair with gay men on reality TV shows no sign of abating," wrote the British website Gay.com UK. "[The race] was about showing the world gay people can do anything [straight people] can," Reichen, a 28-year-old flying instructor, said after crossing the finish line. The finale drew a 6.7 rating and a 12 share for CBS in the 8:00 p.m. hour, versus a 7.1/12 rating for Friends and a 6.1/10 for Scrubs on NBC. Meanwhile, NBC's repeat of Bravo's Queer Eye for the Straight Guy at 10:00 p.m. scored a 7.0/11 -- well above what reruns of E.R. have been producing in that hour but well below CBS's Without a Trace, which drew a 9.5/15.
