CHASING PAPI    1.5 stars
by Lew Irwin                     View Credits | See Other Reviews
Also opening today is Chasing Papi. Here's how Roger Ebert describes it in the Chicago Sun-Times: "Chasing Papi is a feature-length jiggle show with Charlie's Angels transformed into Latina bimbos." Mike Clark in USA Today writes similarly: "Imagine a movie so broadly conceived that it was written, directed and all parts were played by Charo -- billed in her '70s heyday of Love Boat gigs as the 'Cuchi-Cuchi Girl.' That's what you get here." And Elizabeth Weitzman in the New York Daily News observes: "The credits on this film are genuinely impressive: Each of the talented actresses is already a popular Latina star, and the film was produced by Forest Whitaker, who directed Waiting to Exhale. No doubt he expected it to speak to an underrecognized audience in the way that one did. Instead, it just speaks down to them and the rest of us."
