Synopsis: Leonardo DiCaprio portrays an American who sets off on an exotic adventure in Thailand in search of 'The Beach,' a legendary tropical paradise free of conventional society's problems. But when he finds the modern day Eden, he learns that it hides more than a few disturbing secrets.

Comment: $40 mill budget. Filming on remote tropical island sparked ongoing protests from environmentalists who rightfully worry that filmmakers will destroy indigenous plants. 20th Century Fox promises to replace the plants, making it "better than before," but whether roots will hold in windy monsoon weather remains to be seen.
