Synopsis:
A gambler, in heavy debt from his racetrack losses, perpetrates a number of frauds, which land him in court. The judge agrees to erase the charges if he can hold a job for a year. He lands a menial job with the post office and winds up assigned to the dead-letter office, stuck with handling letters addressed to God. He answers one, but mistakenly includes his paycheck in the envelope, setting off a whole series of charitable actions by his co-workers and others, leading some to revive their faith in the mysterious works of God.
