Synopsis: Set on the high seas. The film draws its title from the first in the 16 novel series and takes place on a man-of-war during the Napoleonic Wars and centers on the friendship between Capt. Aubrey and Stephen Maturin, the latter a ship's surgeon and intelligence agent. The novels are replete with details of seafaring from the period, including flogging and fighting.

Comment: Based on the series of novels by Patrick O'Brian. Crowe attached to on-again, off-again project in Jan '02.
