Synopsis: Depression era story about a young writer from Colorado who moves to a seedy hotel in downtown Los Angeles and is ultimately forced to chose between his love for an earthy hispanic waitress and his craft.

Comment: Screen adpatation of John Fante's 1939 novel "Ask the Dust." Fred Roos and John Jashni had in development with Towne at WB before C/W took over.
