Synopsis:
Sequel to "Silence of the Lambs." Lecter's first victim actually survived his attack, and even though he is only a shell of his former self, he plots to subject Lecter to torture by carniverous dogs. Starling hunts down Lecter to warn him, thus becomes discredited by the FBI and winds up in alliance with Lecter.
Comment:
De Laurentiis in negotiations for $9 million purchase of book, which is sequel to "Silence of the Lambs"; he has rights to first negotiation and last refusal on author-written sequels to Harris' "Red Dragon" which De Laurentiis made into a film in 1981. De Laurentiis had loaned the character Hannibal Lecter to Orion for one-time use to Orion for "Silence of the Lambs."
Harris spent close to a decade writing the novel. "Silence of the Lambs" director Jonathan Demme once set to helm, but backed out after Harris wouldn't let him change material he felt was too violent.
