Synopsis: Miguel Pinero, a New York City poet and playwright who did prison time for drug dealing and robbery, met considerable success with his poetry and writing. His play SHORT EYES, about his experiences in jail, won the Tony award in 1974. However, Pinero slunk back into the shadows before his art could bloom, and he died in 1988.
