Synopsis:
In 1976, incoming Philadelphia Eagles coach Dick Vermeil decided to shake up his team by holding an open tryout. Vince Papale, a 30-year-old bartender whose wife recently walked out on him and had never played organized football, was among the swarm of fans that answered the call and was the only one left standing by the end of the tryout. Papale got a rude introduction to pro football when the very Eagles players he idolized pummeled him throughout training camp. Undeterred, he made the team as wide receiver but made his mark on special teams where he was named captain and scored a touchdown on a fumble recovery against the New York Giants in his rookie season. Papale went on to play three seasons with the Eagles.
