Synopsis:
A film with two parallel narratives, one covering the life cycle of a 2,000-pound mother walrus and her 200-pound calf and the other following a polar bear and her cubs. As global warming shrinks their Arctic home, the mother animals must face down freezing cold, hunger and threats from predators to rear and protect their young.
Comment:
Arctic zoologist and cinematographer Adam Ravetch ("On Thin Ice") and filmmaker Sarah Robertson have been filming with Super 16 cameras for six years in the frozen Arctic, where temperatures can drop to minus 40 degrees Fahrenheit.
