Synopsis: A boy who is a loner by nature lives in an isolated coastal town with his romance-plagued mother and two sisters. Worshipping his late father, who died during military service, the solitary boy aspires to get into an exclusive military academy but has already failed the entrance exam. His mother hires a tutor to prepare him for his next attempt, a local man who has had his face hideously disfigured in an accident and has become a village pariah because of his horrifying features. The teacher, who has sequestered himself from human contact because of his disfigurement, finds that he is as much nourished by the boy’s presence as the boy is by his tutoring.
