Synopsis:
A French baron, whose estate is plagued by bacteria-spreading swampland that is festering disease among his peasant workers, endeavors to win the ear of Louis XVI in order to receive monies to drain the swamps. The peculiarities of court are such that wit and connections mean much more than the worth of the project. The country aristocrat tries to learn the way of the court, including the alliances and dalliances that will further his chances. Fortunately, his rapier wit brings him closer to the King, all the while duplicitous women and other moral libertines scorch his backside. The royal palace, he soon finds, is filled with more malodorous quagmires than his estate's swampy waters.
