Synopsis: A rambunctious 12-year-old, shipped off by alcoholic dad just after World War II to her grandparent’s home, is drawn, along with her teen cousin, into the Irish town’s curious past. She is especially enamored with its folklore, and her connection to a half-human, half-seal being called Selkie. During her sojourn on this mystical seaside, the impressionable girl encounters other magical experiences. Among these mystical happenings, she spots her toddler brother running along the beach, especially ethereal since the boy has long been dead. To solve and understand these strange occurrence, she convinces her grandparents to venture out to their former home on the island of Roan Inish, hoping to uncover what lurks in her family tree.
