Synopsis: A bank president in 1947 is convicted of the murder of his wife and her lover, owing to circumstantial evidence and his own non-emotional courtroom demeanor. Once in prison, he makes his business acumen useful to the warden, so much so that he sabotages his chances for parole. He eventually makes it out of prison, thanks to his friendship with a black inmate who knows how to get things done. By his even-keeled resourcefulness, the lifer/banker escapes equally important, frees himself of his previously confined emotional spirit.
