Rupert Murdoch has defended Roger Ailes, head of his Fox News cable operation, following disclosure that Ailes sent a note to President Bush following the September 11 attacks advising him on political strategy. Speaking to a News Corp shareholders meeting in New York Thursday, Murdoch maintained that Ailes would have written the same note to a Democratic president. "It was just a patriotic letter and not partisan in any way," Murdoch said. Murdoch also criticized the possible merger of ABC News and CNN, saying that if it occurred, "they'd each lose their uniqueness."
