CBS TO REPURPOSE NEWS FOOTAGE ON GAY CHANNEL

Under the heading "Queer Eye for the Straight News," Broadcasting & Cable reported Thursday that former CNN correspondent Jason Bellini has been selected to anchor CBS News on Logo, Viacom's recently launched gay cable network. The 3-5-minute reports are due to air at various times across Logo's schedule, using CBS News footage, beginning Monday, August 15.

Logo,
Viacom's
channel
targeting
the
gay
and
lesbian
audience,
was
quietly
launched
Thursday,
with
several
analysts
questioning
its
survival
potential.
Most
expressed
the
opinion
that
protests
by
conservative
religious
and
family
activists
would
have
little
effect
on
the
channel's
durability.
(The
expected
backlash
has
yet
to
develop.)
They
noted,
however,
that
the
limited
exposure
now
afforded
the
network
on
cable
systems
represents
a
considerable
handicap.

Conservative
religious
and
family
groups
have
remained
surprisingly
silent
in
advance
of
the
debut
of
Viacom's
gay
channel
Logo
on
Thursday.
The
channel
is
due
to
roll
out
in
10
million
homes
on
basic
cable
in
major
markets
serviced
by
Time
Warner
Cable,
Adelphia,
Cablevision
and
RCN.

a
spokesperson
for
the
channel
said
Tuesday
that
it
was
confident
Comcast
would
also
carry
the
channel
at
launch,
Comcast
issued
a
statement

denying
that
