The Writers Guild of America on Tuesday disputed claims by the Association of Motion Picture and Television Producers that the AMPTP's latest proposal would produce $130 million in additional revenue for the writers over three years. "Our analysis ... tells us their offer is worth only $32 million," the WGA said in a message emailed to members. If, however, they can substantiate their claim that the additional $130 million will be forthcoming to the writers, the statement said, "the WGA is confident we are closer to a deal than anyone has suggested." The writers' own proposal would cost the companies $151 million over the three years, the WGA claimed, just $21 million more, and represents "a serious, reasonable, and affordable attempt to bridge the gap between us." Further complicating matters is the likelihood that a deal with writers will become a template for ones with actors and directors.
