BERLIN FILM FESTIVAL GETS WHAT THEY WANT

The Berlin Film Festival has chosen Shine a Light, Martin Scorsese's documentary about the Rolling Stones, to open this year's festival on February 7. Festival organizers said Tuesday that the director and the veteran rock band will attend the screening. In its statement, the organizers said, "Scorsese has created an extraordinary musical film event and given audiences unprecedented access to the Rolling Stones both on stage and off."

causing
an
uproar
at
the
Berlin
Film
Festival
for
being
screened
without
first
being
submitted
to
Chinese
censors,
the
movie
Lost
in
Beijing
has
been
ordered
withdrawn
from
further
exhibition
in
China.
Citing
the
film's
"pornographic"
content
and
the
fact
that
it
was
shown
at
the
Berlinale
without
state
permission,
Chinese
officials
also
said
that
the
film's
producer
will
be
barred
from
making
films
for
two
years.

MADONNA FILM TO PREMIERE AT BERLINALE

Organizers
of
the
Berlin
Film
Festival
have
landed
Filth
and
Wisdom,
which
marks
Madonna's
directorial
debut,
for
the
Feb.
7-17
event.
The
film,
however,
will
not
screen
in
competition
but
rather
in
the
Panorama
section,
which
generally
showcases
the
work
of
first-time
directors
dealing
with
issue-oriented
topics.
Filth
and
Wisdom
is
reportedly
a
short
film
--
of
about
30
minutes
--
that
deals
with
Madonna's
own
"life
experiences."
She
has
declined
to
discuss
its
content
