IGER: DISNEY WILL REAP $1 BILLIION FROM 'DIGITAL'

Disney CEO Bob Iger said Wednesday that he expects his company will earn $1 billion from all things digital during 2008 -- up from $750 million in 2007. Disney has numerous digital businesses ranging from cell phones to video games to movie downloads to websites. Disney's quarterly report does not specify how much each of these revenue streams contributes to its bottom line. Speaking to the McGraw Hill Media Summit in New York, Iger said that kids are embracing digital media, making it a part of their daily lives. "In the years ahead, broadband on the computer will be the primary source of entertainment for kids," he predicted. "It's just as important to them as the TV set now." He expressed satisfaction with Disney's relationship with Apple's iTunes Store, noting that while the company has sold some 4 million movies via iTunes and some 40-50 million TV episodes, there was no indication that the sales had affected its traditional DVD business.
