Likewise, critics are mostly giving short shrift to the plot of Tony Bui's Three Seasons, which also opens in limited release today, focusing instead on the lush cinematography and the rich performances of its mostly Vietnamese stars. Stephen Holden in the New York Times describes it as "a dreamy cinematic poem." Likewise Robert Dominguez in the New York Daily News calls the movie a "beautifully filmed, lyrical look at a 'new' Vietnam." And Kevin Thomas comments in the Los Angeles Times that "Three Seasons is the gentlest, most exquisitely beautiful of films, set in a place that has experienced one of the bitterest struggles in modern times." |
