In today's (Friday) reviews, Clint Eastwood manages to come off relatively unscathed even if True Crime, the new movie that he stars in and directs, does not. Jami Bernard in the New York Daily News says that the film finds Eastwood "struggling against an avalanche of trite, ineffectual material." Philip Wuntch in the Dallas Morning News concludes that Eastwood succeeds in that struggle. "He makes a workable, frequently enjoyable film out of a script with interesting characters but hackneyed situations." But Rick Groen in the Toronto Globe & Mail begins his review with these words: "Say it ain't so, Clint. Please tell me that tired old man, directing his tired old self in a tired old flick, is not the real Clint Eastwood but some rank impostor. Because, otherwise, this just isn't a pretty sight." |
