Still Crazy, starring Stephen Rea and Billy Connolly, about a group of '70s rock stars coming together for a reunion, suffers somewhat from being compared with the classic This is Spinal Tap in virtually every review. Roger Ebert in the Chicago Sun-Times calls it "a kinder, gentler version" of Spinal Tap. Susan Wloszczyna in USA Today comments "Still Crazy is less crazy than This is Spinal Tap." But Jay Carr in the Boston Globe regards the movie as a "lively and endearing chronicle" of the fictional rock band, one of whose members now operates a "profitable men's room condom concession in Ibiza." While Rod Dreher in the New York Post begins his review this way: "You don't have to be over 40 to enjoy Still Crazy, but ... well, actually you do." He explains: "This flaccid but pleasantly tolerable British comedy ... is meant to rouse aging baby boomers who fear they're uncool and too old to rock 'n' roll." |
