Joe Dirt is getting mud slung at it from virtually all sides. Steven Rea in the Philadelphia Inquirer comments that the film "is just a big chunk of waste flushed from a Hollywood studio." "This foul David Spade vehicle needs to be hosed down," writes Jami Bernard in the New York Daily News. Referring to Spade's television series, Dan Gross in the Philadelphia Daily News comments: "Unfortunately, the audience is left saying, 'Just shoot me.'" Roger Ebert in the Chicago Sun Times is clearly getting a bit miffed at having to sit through movies like this one. "We professional movie critics count it a banner week when only one movie involves eating, falling into or being covered by excrement," he writes. "What these movies, including Joe Dirt, often do not understand is that the act of being buried in crap is not in and of itself funny." |
