Universal Pictures presents a film directed by Rob Cohen. Written by Gary Scott Thompson, Erik Bergquist and David Ayer. Running time: 101 minutes. Rated PG-13 (for violence, sexual content and language). Judging from the reaction of critics, The Fast and the Furious ought to give new meaning to the term "smoke screens." "Unless you live and breathe exhaust fumes, there isn't much to sustain a viewer," writes Jami Bernard in the New York Daily News. Mark Caro in the Chicago Tribune remarks: "This movie is unapologetic about its nature: It's a souped-up model of your basic exploitation flick involving fast cars, fast women and relatively slow-witted men, the kind who yell, 'We got cops, cops, cops!''" Phillip Wuntch in the Dallas Morning News agrees, writing: "The Fast and the Furious is guilt-free pleasure, the sort that wears its trashiness on its sleeve and exults in it. See it at a drive-in, if you can still find one." And Susan Wloszczyna in USA Today concludes: "As long as you keep expectations in low gear, you just might consider this guilty-pleasure ride to be a real gas." |
