Little Miss Sunshine, a hit at the Sundance Film Festival this year, is also a hit with film critics as it opens in limited release this weekend. Many praise the performances of Toni Collette, Greg Kinnear, Alan Arkin, Steve Carrell, Paul Dano, and Abigail Breslin, playing family members heading for Little Miss Sunshine, a kind of beauty pageant for kids. "This might be the best ensemble cast of the year," Glenn Whipp remarks in the Los Angeles Daily News. "The casting is flawless," adds Jack Mathews in the New York Daily News. "It has been a while since we've seen such a consistently funny and entertaining road movie," comments Claudia Puig in USA Today. The film, writes Manohla Dargis in the New York Times, "motors forward on the strength of its seamless ensemble and direction, and its touching human comedy." Joe Morgenstern in the Wall Street Journal calls it a "wonderful debut feature" that offers "lovely surprises by the busload." |
