Critics, who were not permitted to see The Grudge 2 in advance of its opening, dutifully trekked to the box office on Friday and submitted their foreseen derogatory reviews the following day. V.A. Musetto in the New York Post set the tone of most: "The movie is utter junk, suitable perhaps for late-night TV, but not for the thousands of big screens on which it opened yesterday. The distributor, Columbia Pictures, knows it has a fiasco on its hands, which is why it didn't bother to screen the movie in advance for critics. Still, teens ... will probably flock to theaters this weekend in hope of being scared witless. Instead, they'll be bored witless." Stephen Hunter in the Washington Post called the move "so bewildering and impenetrable that I believe it siphoned off a good 40 IQ points." |
