Critics have almost universally paned the sci-fi thriller Repo Men with The Hollywood Reporter's Michael Rechtshaffen calling the film "a derivative and increasingly ridiculous sci-fi thriller." The film stars Jude Law and Forest Whitaker as two men who take back people's artificial organs who have failed to pay when Law's character finds himself unable to pay for his own organ. One of the main complaints centers on the ways the film is like so many others. As Rechtshaffen explains, it contains, "reclaimed bits from Blade Runner, A Clockwork Orange and Children of Men ..." What Rechtshaffen omitted, but many other critics noted, is that Repo Men has the exact premise as Repo! The Genetic Opera, minus Paris Hilton and the singing. Calling the movie a "poor man's Daybreakers," Village Voice's Nick Pinkerton declares "the invisible hand will mercifully sweep [the film] into discount-DVD oblivion." |
