Wild Things is receiving both high praise and condemnation for a constantly turning plot which even spirals through the closing credits. "The movie has more twists than Chubby Checker," writes Jack Mathews for Newsday and the Los Angeles Times. But, he says, "Wild Things is clever for clever's sake." Jay Carr in the Boston Globe says that the film's "plot is as twisty as a gator's jawline." But he too adds, "sooner or later you realize you're watching glossy Hollywood chess, where flavorful character gives way to the feel of dots being connected, of counters being pushed around a game board." Jack Garner in USA Today comments that the film "exploits one twist after another,until they seem as manipulative as Denise Richards' wet t-shirt." But Norman Wilner in the Toronto Star gives the film left-handed praise: "Packed with sleaze from beginning to end and top-heavy with hot bodies and cold hearts," he writes, "Wild Things is the kind of movie that gives gratuitous sex and violence a good name." |
