Hoping to get a slight jump on the Disney film, Viacom's The Rugrats Movie opens today to mostly poor-to-so-so reviews. Roger Ebert in the Chicago Sun Times compares it with the two insect movies. Unlike both of them, he says, "the movie makes little effort to appeal to anyone over [10]." In fact, he says, "I traveled in my memory back to my 10th year, to ask if I would have liked Rugrats. The answer was, no -- but when I was 8, I might have." Gene Siskel in the Chicago Tribune describes it as "underwhelming;" Dave Kehr in the New York Daily News, as "just another unimaginative action film ... filled with familiar thrills and predictable dangers. |
