Senseless, a title that would seem to be a set-up for movie critics, is garnering at least a few positive reviews. In particular, Kevin Thomas in the Los Angeles Times calls it "a terrific showcase for Marlon Wayans ... a laff riot that also contains a torrent of scathing social satire." Carrie Rickey in the Philadelphia Inquirer writes similarly that the film is "a showcase for [Wayans'] rubber-limbed comedy the likes of which hasn't been seen since the heyday of Jerry Lewis." But, in a mixed review, Janet Maslin writes in the New York Times that Wayans "may be the most unabashed elastic comic this side of Jim Carrey, but the many distractions in Senseless keep his performance uneven. ... This comedy only intermittently manages to be so dopey that it's smart." At the opposite end of the critical spectrum, Renee Graham writes in the Boston Globe: "Perhaps a better title for this colossal waste of time would have been Pointless or Humorless." And Michael Medved in the New York Post damns the movie as "a malodorous melange of wretched rectum jokes" and, yielding to temptation, concludes, "Ordinary moviegoers will make little sense of Senseless."
