Hush invites comparisons also -- mostly of Joan Crawford and Bette Davis in their Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? Rita Kempley in the Washington Post calls the movie a "homage to the lurid genre, complete with campy dialogue, a preposterous scenario and acting like you haven't seen since the high school drama club attempted Desire Under the Elms." Larry Worth in the New York Post says that, with Hush, Jessica Lange's "got a bigger monkey on her back than 1976's King Kong." Judy Gerstel in the Toronto Star observes that "in better days, Hush would have been a terrific television skit on the Carol Burnett Show." Robert Philpot, writing for Knight Ridder, comments that the film should turn up on free TV quickly. "Even then, you probably shouldn't bother, unless the weather's really lousy." USA Today sums up: "Hush is recycled junk." |
