Can't Hardly Wait is taking some hard knocks from the critics. Susan Wloszczyna in USA Today says that while Charlie Korsmo produces "a smile or two," there is not much else that can "save a film that counts among its more memorable lines, 'Let's go pee in the pool.'" "Can't Hardly Wait is more than bad grammar," writes the New York Post's Larry Worth. "It's bad movie making." Less harsh is Janet Maslin in the New York Times, who comments, "So originality is not the strong suit of Can't Hardly Wait." The writers, she says, "show easygoing humor and the wisdom to borrow well." And Kevin Thomas in the Los Angeles Times credits them for allowing their "characters to emerge as fully dimensional individuals; they've been written with care and perception." Michael Saunders in the Boston Globe observes, "Sometimes a film doesn't have to be classically good, just good enough." |
