Neil Jordan's In Dreams is receiving unremittingly nightmarish reviews. Jack Mathews, writing for Newsday and The Los Angeles Times, dismisses it as "ludicrous." Renee Graham in the Boston Globe calls it "a tedious mishmash of psychobabble and chiller-flick cliches cribbed from a half-dozen better films." Only Robert Downey Jr. who appears late in the film, comes out unscathed in the reviews. Says the New York Times' Janet Maslin, "In a chilling, deceptively casual-looking performance, this brave and ever-astonishing actor courts the ridiculous even as he makes the story's craziest dreams come true." |
